GUATEMALA CITY, March 26. /TASS/. Russia hopes to get the status of a non-regional observer in the Central American Integration System (SICA) that embraces Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, and Salvador, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday at a news conference he addressed together with the Guatemalan counterpart, Carlos Raul Morales.
"Today SICA member-states chaired by Guatemala are expected to issue an important joint statement that will mark the start of scrutiny of our application for getting the status of a non-regional observer," Lavrov said.
