Ukraine’s peacekeeper mission idea draws no support from EU — Russian diplomat

The final documents of the EU summit that ended last Friday contain not a single word of support for these ideas, says Russia’s EU envoy

MOSCOW, March 23. /TASS/. The EU countries have turned a cold shoulder to the Ukraine’s idea of deploying peacekeepers in Donbas, Russia’s EU envoy, Vladimir Chizhov said on Monday.

"We have been talking with the EU a great deal about Ukraine. Possibly, even more than we would like to. Although the European Union as such is not a party to the Normandy Format of a settlement, it is an active participant in the related discussions," he said.

"Everybody knows about Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s initiative for moving UN peacekeepers or a policing mission of the EU to Ukraine. I should say that neither the United Nations nor the EU have responded with any support for this initiative. The final documents of the EU summit that ended last Friday contain not a single word of support for these ideas," Chizhov said.
