MOSCOW, March 19. /TASS/. Pyongyang urges the United States and South Korea to immediately stop military exercises, North Korea’s Ambassador to Russia Kim Hyun Joon said on Thursday.

"Today the situation in the Korean peninsula remains extremely tense amid policies of the US and enemy forces to strangle the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and to unleash a new war," the ambassador said at a reception marking the 66th anniversary since the intergovernmental agreement on economic and cultural cooperation was signed.

"In South Korea the provocative joint military exercises Key Resolve and Foal Eagle are being conducted, practising maneuvers aimed at seizing Pyongyang," Kim Hyun Joon said.

"All these activities are fanning tensions in the Korean peninsula reaching the breaking point at which a full-fledged war can break out," he said urging Washington and its allies to "leave their rash and reckless actions and to stop immediately the US.- South Korean military exercises."
