India successfully test launches Astra missile from Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter

The Astra missile can hit targets at a distance of up to 110 kilometers if launched from the altitude of 15 kilometers

NEW DELHI, March 19. /TASS/. India has successfully test launched an Astra missile from a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet, the head of the Satish Dhawan Space Center told TASS Thursday.

The last test of the Astra missile was conducted at sea on May 4, 2014 and was successfull as well.

The 3.8 meter long missile is the smallest in its class. It can be launched from different altitudes and can hit targets at a distance of up to 110 kilometers if launched from the altitude of 15 kilometers.

It's expected that Sukhoi Su-30MKI and Mirage-2000 fighters of the Indian Air Force will be armed with Astra missiles.
