Parliamentary election starts in Israel

The Likud party headed by the now Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the center-left Zyonist bloc, headed by Isaac Herzog, are the generally acknowledged leaders in the election campaign

TEL-AVIV, March 17. /TASS/. Around 3,200 polling stations have opened in Israel at 7.00am local time Tuesday to hold early election to the Israeli parliament. Twenty-six officially registered blocs and parties are running for the parliament, but only eleven registered hopefuls might overcome the election barrier.

The Likud party headed by the now Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the center-left Zyonist bloc, headed by Isaac Herzog, are the generally acknowledged leaders in the election campaign.

There are 5.88 million officially registered voters in Israel. Israeli President Reuven Rivlin is to be notified about the official results of vote counting by March 25.
