Red Cross urges humanitarian space for aid to Donbas

President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer said the aid issue should not be politicized

MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) urges all sides in the Ukrainian conflict to create humanitarian space for aid to the population of Donbas, ICRC President Peter Maurer told at a news conference on Tuesday.

He also said the aid issue should not be politicized. Kiev and Western countries have repeatedly voiced displeasure over Russia’s sending humanitarian convoys to Ukraine’s embattled east.

Russia said in response that its aid helped thousands of civilians to survive as the region practically found itself in a blockade.

From August 2014, Donetsk and Luhansk have received a total of 20,000 tons of humanitarian cargo from Russia.
