Media: Taiwan plane crash death toll rises to 9

There are still people trapped inside the plane that crashed into a river on the outskirts of Taiwan's Taipei

HONGKONG, February 4. /TASS/. Nine people have been confirmed dead as a result of a plane crash that occurred Wednesday in Taipei, reports the Central news agency of Taiwan.

The ATR-72 plane of the local TransAsia Airways air company shortly after take-off hit a motorway overpass and crashed into a shallow river on the outskirts of Taipei.

There were 53 people on board, including two children, five crew members and three dozen tourists.

Several people reportedly managed to make it to the shore on their own. At least 27 passengers were taken to medical institutions, but nine of them showed no signs of life. There are still people trapped inside the plane.
