MOSCOW, January 20. /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that five Russian nationals have been detained in France.
“Our diplomatic institutions in France - the embassy in Paris and the general consulate in Marseille - have requested the necessary information from the French authorities. In response, it was confirmed to them that all five detained people are nationals of Russia,” the report said.
“They were told that more detailed information will be provided later,” it said.
They were detained on suspicion of preparing terrorist attacks, Beziers (Herault department in the south of France) city prosecutor Yvon Calvet said earlier.
According to local media reports, all the five detainees are from Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Chechnya. They have been placed in custody. Police have conducted searches at their detention places.
