Donetsk and its suburbs come under shelling from Ukrainian army 50 times over one day

Earlier on Sunday, DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko said Ukrainian bombers had delivered an air strike on the town of Gorlovka

DONETSK, January 18. /TASS/. Ukraine’s armed forces shelled Donetsk, Gorlovka and positions of the DPR militias about 50 times on Sunday, the Donets News Agency cited the press service of the defence ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

“On Sunday, eight militias were killed, 32 were wounded,” the press service said. “We are getting prepared to rebuff further attack of the Ukrainian military.”

Earlier on Sunday, DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko said Ukrainian bombers had delivered an air strike on the town of Gorlovka. “In the evening, Ukrainian bombers dropped 500-killogram air bombs on Gorlovka. It was not targeted bombing because of clouds, they just dropped bombs on the town,” he said, adding that more than 30 people, including children, were either killed or wounded in this air strike.

Also on Sunday, a group of representatives of Joint Centre for Control and Co-ordination (JCCC) came under fire from large-calibre Uragan weapons of the Ukrainian army in Gorlovka (Donetsk region). A Russian representative at the JCCC said that Donetsk’s residential quarters were being shelled by Ukraine’s regular army units. ‘Whereas previously, Donetsk was shelled by non-controlled units of the National Guard and the so-called territorial battalions, today it is absolutely obvious that residential quarters are being shelled by regular units of the Ukrainian army. Apart from that, the Ukrainian side used bomber aircraft, for the first time after a long pause,” he said.

The Mayor of Gorlovka, Oleg Gubanov, said that two persons had been killed and 16 more had been wounded in shelling. The Donetsk administration reported the death of five civilians.
