TOKYO, January 18. /TASS/. The Saga prefectural authorities began culling about 73,000 chickens on Sunday at poultry farms after bird flu virus was detected earlier this week.

About 20 dead birds were found at poultry farms in the town of Arita, and veterinary tests confirmed bird flu virus.

A quarantine was imposed within a three-kilometre radius of the two farms, while farms in a 10-km radius zone have been ordered not to deliver their products.

Almost 350,000 chickens have been culled in Japan because of bird flu cases.

Five bird flu outbreaks have been reported in the country this winter.
