Russians wanted by Interpol for large-scale fraud detained in Guatemala - CICIG

Russia’s ambassador to Guatemala Nikolai Babich said he has been unable to contact the republic’s representatives to clarify the circumstances of what happened

MEXICO CITY, January 17. /TASS/. Three Russians were detained in Guatemala during a joint operation involving officers of the country’s Interior Ministry and the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) operating under UN aegis, the CICIG reported in a statement received by the TASS mission in Mexico.

The document says three members of the Bitkov family (Igor, Irina and Anastasiya) have been detained in Guatemala. According to preliminary data, they have been charged with forging official IDs.

The arrest warrant for the above-mentioned people was issued by prosecutor’s office of Guatemala’s capital.

Preliminary investigation established that Bitkovs set up commercial businesses while using forged documents in Guatemala.
