BEIJINH, January 13. /TASS/. China supports a meeting between members of Afghanistan’s and Pakistan’s governments and representatives of the Islamist Taliban movement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Tuesday.
“China is Afghanistan’s friendly neighbour and we are closely monitoring developments in that country,” Hong said when asked whether it was possible to revive the long-stalled dialogue between the Afghan government and the Taliban with Beijing serving as a mediator.
The diplomat expressed hope that Afghanistan will be able to return to peaceful development as soon as possible.
“We support the Afghan reconciliation process and want to play a positive role,” he added.
