BEIJING, December 31. /TASS/. The death toll of a strong blast which rocked a machine-building plant in the city of Foshan, south China’s Guangdong Province, reached 17 on Wednesday morning. Another 20 were taken to hospital with different wounds, local media reported.

After the start of the workday three successive loud blasts were heard at the enterprise and a thick smoke started rising. The explosion torn off the roof at a shop of the factory and damaged its walls and fence. The windows were broken by the blast wave in neighbouring buildings.

Police and firemen came to the fire site. The plant is cordoned off. The fire is being investigated.
