BERLIN, December 29. /TASS/. Germany does not confirm that Chancellor Angela Merkel will take part in a meeting within the so-called Normandy format on January 15, a source in the German government told TASS on Monday.

The source declined to elaborate.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said a meeting within the so-called Normandy format would be held in Astana on January 15.

“My diplomatic year will start in Astana on January 15 where a meeting within the Normandy format will be held,” Poroshenko said.

The so-called Normandy format was established in June when Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko discussed the Ukrainian crisis on the sidelines of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day in Normandy, France.
