China’s Beijing starts building new major airport

Its construction will cost 80 billion yuan ($13.1 billion) that makes this project most costly in Chinese civil aviation history

BEIJING, December 25. /TASS/. The Chinese capital on Friday has begun building a new airport which is planned to open in 2019.

Airport construction will cost 80 billion yuan ($13.1 billion) that makes this project most costly in Chinese civil aviation history, local media reported. After 2025 the airport will service 72 million passengers, 620 thousand flights and trans-ship two million tons of cargoes annually.

The new air harbour will be situated in suburban district Daxing, 46 kilometers south of central Beijing square Tiananmen. The airport will have four runways, 150 parking stands for passenger airliners and 24 — for cargo jets. The area of terminals will make around 700 thousand square meters. An aeroexpress train line will connect the airport with the city.

The international airport Shoudu, which is translated as capital, built in 1958 and reconstructed several times later, is the main Beijing gateway. Its annual throughput capacity is 83.7 million passengers.
