MOSCOW, December 24. /TASS/. Russian presidential special envoy for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed prospects for the political settlement in Syria with Syrian Ambassador in Moscow Riyad Haddad on Wednesday.
The meeting was held at the request of the Syrian diplomat.
“The parties paid priority attention to the implementation of Russia’s idea for holding the inter-Syrian preparatory contacts in Moscow to contribute to launching a dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition without preconditions on the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2014,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Bogdanov and Haddad also discussed “key issues of Russian-Syrian relations with the focus on expanding trade, economic and humanitarian relations”, the ministry said.
