HAVANA, December 20. /TASS/. Cuba is interested in Russia’s position regarding the pressure from Western countries on Moscow, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told Russian reporters in Havana following his meeting with Cuba’s leader Raul Castro on Saturday.

“Our Cuban friends are also interested in our position regarding the pressure on Russia from the West,” he said.

For the Cuban, he said, it was most important to confirm Russia has not changed its positions on the major issues like Crimea, improvement of sovereignty and independence.

At the same time, Cuba is not going to renounce its principles in exchange for Washington’s promises he said. “This means, Cuba will not drop its position in exchange for the promises, which as yet are part of an oral dialogue, initiated by Washington,” the deputy prime minister said.

Rogozin stressed it was not the Cuban side, which initiated lifting the blockade.

“The American side was the initiator,” he said.

Rogozin called useful the talks with Raul Castro.

“It was a very deep, sincere discussion,” he said. The U.S., which diplomatic interests are represented by the embassy of Switzerland, will have to analyse results of the trip of the Russian delegation to Havana for the 12th Russia-Cuba intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation. Rogozin called “correct the decision of the Russian government to send [to Cuba] the representative Russian delegation so that we could sign the long outstanding agreements, which demonstrated progress right on time.”.
