Former top official of China’s Communist Party arrested and expelled from party

Zhou Yongkang was in charge of political and legal issues till 2012

BEIJING, December 5. /TASS/. Zhou Yongkang, a former top Communist Party official, has been expelled from the party and placed under arrest, the Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

Zhou Yongkang, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee, was in charge of political and legal issues till 2012. Prior to his party post, he was China’s Minister of Public Security.

According to Xinhua, the prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into Zhou Yongkang’s suspected crimes. The decision to expel him from the party was taken at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the party’s Central Committee on Friday.
