UN to deliver food aid to 120,000 residents of eastern Ukraine

As the winters comes the UN is planning to increase aid by providing food baskets, including tinned meat, fish, buckwheat, paste, beans, butter, sugar, salt and tea, to residents of eastern Ukraine

GENEVA, December 3. /TASS/. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is planning to provide food aid to 120,000 residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, eastern Ukraine, till April 2015, the WFP said in a press release on Tuesday.

From September non-commercial organisations rendered aid to 30,000 people, the press release said.

As the winters comes the UN is planning to increase aid by providing food baskets, including tinned meat, fish, buckwheat, paste, beans, butter, sugar, salt and tea, to 40,000 residents of eastern Ukraine. Special vouchers will be given three times to another 80,000 people, it said.

The press release notes the aggravation of the situation in eastern Ukraine and the build-up of armed confrontation. Due to this fact the WFP predicts the possible increase in the number of internally displaced persons.

The reduction of purchasing power due to the rise in inflation and food prices also proves the aggravation of the food situation, the press release said.
