Ukraine government restricts coal export — minister

The government has taken this preemptive decision because there is a threat that some volumes may be exported, Minister of Energy and Coalmining Yuriy Prodan said

KIEV, November 12. /TASS/. The Ukrainian government decided to restrict export of deficit types of coal required for operation of thermal power stations, Minister of Energy and Coalmining Yuriy Prodan told reporters after a government meeting on Wednesday.

“The government has imposed some restrictions on export of energy coal of deficit brands of anthracite and semi-anthracite from Ukraine,” the minister said.

The government has taken this preemptive decision because there is a threat that “some volumes may be exported,” he said, noting that Ukraine suffers an acute deficit of coal supplies for thermal power stations now.

Amounts of coal are insufficient at stocks of thermal power stations which poses a threat of the country “not managing to live through this autumn and winter,” Prodan said at the government meeting on Wednesday.
