First vessel with coal from South Africa arrives in Ukraine

Under the agreement with South Africa, one million tons of coal should be supplied to Ukraine till the yearend

KIEV, October 23. /TASS/. The first vessel carrying coal from South Africa arrived in Ukraine on Thursday, Ukrinform News Agency said.

An official of the Ilyichevsk Commercial Seaport, Stanislav Nezavitin, told the news agency, “The vessel (Scotian Express) has arrived tonight as expected.”

Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said the country needed to purchase additional four million tons of coal until the end of the year.

Under the agreement with South Africa, one million tons of coal (250,000 tons every month) should be supplied to Ukraine till the yearend.

A total of 84,000 tons of coal are aboard the Dutch vessel Scotian Express.
