OTTAWA, October 22. /TASS/. A soldier of a guard of honor wounded by an unknown assailant earlier Wednesday in Ottawa has died, a police spokesman told a TASS correspondent on the site.
An unknown gunman opened fire at honor guard soldiers at the National War Memorial commemorating Canadian soldiers killed in the First World War. Witnesses said they saw a gunman armed with a long rifle, who rushed towards the Parliament Hill after attack.
As previously reported, members of the Canadian Parliament and the government were evacuated because of the shooting, committed by the unknown person in close proximity to administrative buildings.
They were evacuated from the buildings with their colleagues and other members of Parliament under sniper and armed police escort. Witnesses said that they heard from 25 to 50 shots in total. Canadian Federal Police advised citizens to keep away from windows and roofs due to the incident in the center of the capital.
