Number of polling stations to be increaseed in Russia for upcoming Moldovan elections

CHISINAU, October 21. /TASS/. Moldova’s opposition has demanded that the authorities increase the number of polling stations in Russia where the majority of migrants stay, leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon told TASS on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Moldovan government approved a list of polling stations abroad.

“The authorities intentionally deprive the electorate of the opportunity to take part in the elections. We will insist, by using all legal means, including protest actions, the number of polling stations increase in Russia. We will attract the attention of the international community to this problem,” Dodon said.

Only three polling stations are opened in Moscow where about 500,000 Moldovan citizens are working now, he said. Due to the fact that only 3,000 people can vote at one polling station, it is clearly insufficient, Dodon said.

He cited Italy as an example where 250,000 Moldovan citizens live and 25 polling stations will be opened while 700,000 Moldovans live in Russia and only 15 polling stations will be set up.

According to the results of preliminary registration, Moldovans who live in Russia, take the most active part in the voting at the parliamentary elections scheduled for November 30. The Socialists believe that at least 250 polling stations should be opened.
