Ukrainian Post suspends postal bank transfers on “uncontrolled” territories of Donbass

On October 19, the government of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic declared that the post offices had resumed their work on territories controlled by the DNR administration

KIEV, October 20. /TASS/. The Ukrainian Post (Ukrpost) has suspended financial transactions on the territories of Donbass which are not controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, the Ukrpost press service said on Monday.

Accepting money orders and making payments on such orders, as well as making any other financial transactions by post on the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which are not controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, has been suspended as demanded by the Ukrainian National Bank Board on August 6, 2014, it said.

On October 19, the government of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic declared that the post offices had resumed their work on territories controlled by the administration of the self-proclaimed republic, according to the press service of the administration.

An agreement was reached on the resumption of work of the post offices, said deputy minister for information and communications of the self-proclaimed republic Dmitry Gromov. "We will do our best so that the staff of the post offices could stay," Gromov added.

The DNR authorities are planning to make social payments to the population through the post offices on the DNR territory.

The Ukrpost has either not operated altogether or was only sometimes open on the DNR territory in the past few months. The local population could not receive their mail, and some of the local pensioners were not paid their pension allowances.
