NEW DELHI, October 17. /TASS/. India successfully test-fired on Friday the subsonic nuclear-capable cruise missile Nirbhay, a state-of-the-art missile developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the Press Trust of India agency said.

The launch of the ground-to-ground missile was carried out from the missile test range in Chandipur in the eastern state of Orissa to the maximum range of 1,000 kilometers.

The development of the Nirbhay missile started in 2007. The missile, designed for the Indian Air Force, Navy and Ground Forces is capable of carrying various types of warheads, including nuclear.

The first launch of Nirbhay in March 2013 ended in failure as the missile wandered off course.
