All CIS states want soonest settlement in Ukraine - Belarusian foreign minister

MINSK, October 9. /TASS/. Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said on Thursday all member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) were interested in the soonest settlement of the situation in Ukraine.

“We cannot let blood be shed and combat operation be conducted in the territory of the CIS,” he said at an extended meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers. He stressed that is was in common interests to settle the situation in Ukraine.

The Belarusian foreign minister noted that his country was holding presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States over Ukraine’s refusal to chair the CIS. “We stand for active cooperation in the CIS format and for strengthening this organization,” Makei said, adding that the CIS had a big but yet unrealized potential.
