Lavrov appreciates Egypt’s role in settling conflicts in MidEast and Northern Africa

MOSCOW, September 28 /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov praised Egypt’s increasing role in the settlement of conflicts in the Middle East and Northern Africa, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

Lavrov met his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry on the sidelines of the 69th session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Saturday.

“They exchanged views on urgent issues of the regional agenda with an emphasis on the situations in Libya, Syria, Iraq and the Palestine track. Sergey Lavrov highly appreciated Egypt’s growing influential role in the reliable settlement of conflicts in trouble spots like the Middle East and Northern Africa,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The sides, the Ministry went on to say, also discussed bilateral relations and confirmed their strong determination to strengthen the countries’ interaction in accordance with agreements reached at the Russian-Egyptian summit in Sochi in August this year.
