KIEV, September 04. /ITAR-TASS/. The fighting has left 837 Ukrainian servicemen dead and 3,044 wounded since the start of the operation against militias in eastern Ukraine, National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andrei Lysenko said on Thursday.

The data will be specified after Ukrainian troops encircled in the outskirts of Ilovaisk are withdrawn, he said.

According to the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic army headquarters, Ukrainian troops suffered heavy losses in Ukraine’s embattled southeastern regions in August.

Over 3,600 Ukrainian punitive troops were either killed or wounded. The Donetsk fighters destroyed almost 220 tanks, over 480 armoured vehicles and 10 drones, the militia headquarters said.

Donetsk and Luhansk militias have begun what they call a humanitarian-combat operation to push the Ukrainian army away from major cities and to stop its artillery strikes on densely populated residential areas.
