DONETSK, September 04. /ITAR-TASS/. A part of armed units loyal to the Kiev government are trying to break through the East-Ukrainian militias’ encirclement of the port of city of Mariupol on the Sea of Azov, Novorossia news agency said Thursday.

At the time of reporting, a combat action was in progress near the township of Bezymennoye.

Fighting between Ukrainian Army units and the militia began Thursday afternoon on the approaches to the eastern outskirts of Mariupol.

Explosions and volleys of gunfire from assault rifles and large-caliber guns were held in the town of Novoazovsk.

As ITAR-TASS reported earlier, militiamen of the Donetsk People’s Republic had seized control of one of the major automobile roads linking Donetsk and Mariupol.

East-Ukrainian units are conducting a humanitarian operation aimed at moving the Ukrainian government forces away from large cities and to deny them an opportunity to deliver artillery and missile strikes at densely populated urban districts.
