LOS ANGELES, September 01, /ITAR-TASS/. Fife people were killed after a light plane crashed on Sunday afternoon near an airfield north of Denver in US state of Colorado, the USA Today reported.

According to the daily, the Piper PA-46 airplane carrying a total of five people crashed near the Erie Municipal Airport.

"It was a scene where you could tell that nobody could do anything right now," the daily cited one of the witnesses to come to the crash scene as saying.

Three people were killed at the scene, while two more died shortly after they were hospitalized.

The Federal Aviation Administration launched an investigation into the incident, the daily added.
