BRUSSELS, August 31, /ITAR-TASS/. The Ukrainian crisis escalation will cause long-term aggravation of EU-Russia relations, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said on Sunday.
With the continuing escalation the long-term relations between Russia and the EU may be undermined, Barroso told a news conference after the EU summit. The spiral of sanctions and countersanctions is getting the situation to the point of no return, which runs counter to both Russian and EU interests. There is still time for finding a political solution, he added.
He said there was no point in continuing the war in Ukraine if the sides could prevent the suffering of people in Ukraine and also the dramatic aggravation of Russia-EU relations.
