Far East customs block third consignment of banned US food imports

MOSCOW, August 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Customs officers in Russia's Far East have reported seizure of a third consignment of banned US meat products and poultry.

The latest seizure follows Russia's prohibition of Western food imports in retaliation for sanctions imposed by the European Union and other nations over the events in Ukraine. One hundred tons of banned product was identified and expelled from the Russian territory on Wednesday, the regional customs administration said.

Previous hauls blocked imports of nearly 25 tons of sausages from the United States entering the Far Eastern port of Vostochny. In another raid, officials identified nearly 80 tons of US poultry, shipped into the port of Vladivostok.
