MINSK, August 27, /ITAR-TASS/. The contact group for Ukraine may gather in Minsk soon, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said.
“The presidents have agreed that the group should continue its work with an aim to find compromise solutions,” the Belarusian foreign minister said as he commented on results of the Minsk summit between the leaders of the Customs Union states, Ukraine and EU representatives. The summit participants said they would like the contact group to meet as soon as possible.
“We are ready to offer a floor for regular working contacts of this group,” the minister said.
Makei described the Minsk summit’s outcome as positive.
“The Putin-Poroshenko meeting alone made the summit worth holding. They (Russia and Ukraine) are the main parties involved which should be the first to seek mutual understanding,” the Belarusian foreign minister went on to say.
During the talks, Russia and other Customs Union states voiced the same concerns about the negative consequences of Ukraine’s signing of association agreement with the European Union.
