SUKHUM, August 24, /ITAR-TASS/. Election staff of the candidate of the presidency of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhaniya confirms that the leader of the Abkhazian political opposition, Raul Khadjimba is winning the early presidential election that was held Sunday.
Khadjimba’s own election staff said earlier he was winning in the first round of the election. Bzhaniya was him main contender.
“We’re still awaiting the early results (of voting counting) for the cities of Gagra and Sukhum but the data we have at the moment suggests that Khadjimba is leading,” said Leonid Lakerbaya, the chief of Aslan Bzhaniya’s election staff.
He added that some irregularities had still been registered at the elections “but they don’t give grounds in any way for challenging the results.
