All 154 polling stations open at Abkhazia early presidential polls

Early presidential elections are being held in the republic, because previous President Alexander Ankvab resigned on opposition’s demand

SUKHUM, August 24 /ITAR-TASS/. All 154 polling stations opened at 8am Moscow time (4am GMT) in 32 constituencies at early presidential elections in South Caucasian Republic of Abkhazia on Sunday.

Three polling stations also opened outside Abkhazia in Russian cities of Moscow and Cherkessk and Turkish city of Istanbul.

General Aslan Bzhania of the State Security Service, former Interior Minister Leonid Dzapshba, incumbent Defence Minister Mirab Kishmaria, and opposition lawmaker Raul Khadzhimba are running for the top post in the republic.

Early presidential elections are being held in the republic, because previous President Alexander Ankvab resigned on opposition’s demand.

Observers from 24 countries are monitoring presidential elections in different regions of the republic.
