Veterinary watchdog prevents attempt to smuggle US poultry into Russia through Kazakhstan

MOSCOW, August 20./ITAR-TASS/. The Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor has prevented an attempt to smuggle US poultry into Russia through Kazakhstan.

Workers of the Omsk-based Rosselkhoznadzor department detained a load of 20 tons of US poultry which was being transported from Kazakhstan to Omsk in the Russian territory. The illegal cargo was detained on the 191st kilometer of the Omsk-Pavlodar motorway.

On August 7, 2014 the Russian government banned food imports, including poultry, from the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia and Norway.

In connection with the cargo of illegal poultry detained on the way to Russia, Rosselkhoznadzor Chief Sergei Dankvert asked Kazakh Agriculture Minister Asylzhan Mamytbekov to inform respective organizations in Kazakhstan that the transportation of products, which imports were banned in Russia, are inadmissible.
