Red Cross waits for Ukraine to recognise Russian aid as humanitarian

Technical aspects of the border crossing process were discussed with Russian and Ukrainian customs officers, border guards, and ICRC officials on Saturday

DONETSK, August 16 /ITAR-TASS/. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has sent Kiev a written resolution confirming the examination of the cargo the Russian humanitarian convoy is carrying, the aid agency’s regional representative said on Saturday.

Pascal Cuttat, head of the ICRC’s regional delegation, said the Red Cross had not yet received Kiev’s reply as to whether it will recognise the convoy as humanitarian aid or not.

He said ICRC officials would accompany each truck in the humanitarian convoy from Russia to Ukraine.

Technical aspects of the border crossing process were discussed with Russian and Ukrainian customs officers, border guards, and ICRC officials on Saturday.

Cuttat said Red Cross officials would also inspect humanitarian aid in Russia before it goes to Ukraine.

However he said that the issue of security for the ICRC officials accompanying the aid had not been solved.
