MOSCOW, August 13, /ITAR-TASS/. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday praised Russia’s role in the Middle East peace settlement efforts. In a telephone conversation with President Vladimir Putin, Abbas spoke highly of Russia’s active role in international efforts to stop the violence, establish humanitarian truce and look for a long-term political settlement in the region, the presidential press service said.
Abbas told Putin about the ongoing Egyptian-brokered talks between Palestinian and Israeli delegations in Cairo. He also welcomed coordination and interaction between Russia and Egypt as “an important factor of strengthening peace and stability” in the Middle East, the press service said.
