Customs officers evacuated from checkpoint on Russian border with Ukraine

ROSTOV-ON-DON, August 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Customs officers were evacuated from a checkpoint on the Russian border with Ukraine last night because of an intensive gunfire coming from the Ukrainian territory near the border line, press service chief of a Customs Department in the south of Russia told ITAR-TASS.

"At 1.10am (local time), customs officers at the Matveyev- Kurgan border checkpoint were evacuated along with the drivers of seven trucks which were in the customs control zone. Border crossing has not been allowed since," spokesman Rayan Farushkin told ITAR-TASS.

"Customs officers were back at their work places at 4.45am, but border crossing has not been resumed yet because several adjoining checkpoints are not operating yet," Farushkin said.
