KIEV, August 07. /ITAR-TASS/. NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen arrives on Thursday on a visit to the Ukrainian capital city Kiev to discuss the entire spectrum of relations between Ukraine and NATO.
“This visit is vitally important for Ukraine, since it will demonstrate NATO’s political support,” Vasily Zvarych, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, told journalists ahead of the visit. “This visit serves as evidence that the North Atlantic Alliance supports European path of development of the Ukrainian state and society.”
Along with other things, the NATO secretary general will discuss in Kiev preparations for the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission due to be held within the framework of the NATO summit in Wales on September 4-5. The commission’s meeting is expected to yield a join document that would underlie a mid-term program of actions, the head of Ukraine’s mission to NATO, Igor Dolgov, said.
The NATO press office said on Thursday Rasmussen would be received by Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko. Apart from that, he will have meetings with Ukraine’s parliament-appointed Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Oleksandr Turchynov and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.
