ALABINO (Moscow Region), August 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia is still interested in Mistral helicopter carriers supplies from France, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov said on Monday.

“We were interested when the contract was signed, and the situation has not changed,” he told ITAR-TASS.

Borisov expressed confidence France would indemnify the entire damage if it failed to supply the carriers according to the contract.

The 1.2 billion euro contract for two Mistral carriers was signed in June 2011. They are planned to be supplied to the Russian fleet late in October and in the second half of 2015 respectively.

The issue has been regularly in the headlines recently because of Russia-West confrontation on Ukraine. In particular, the US calls on France to cancel supplies.

Russia would be able to construct its own carrier ship if France refused to supply Mistral, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin who is in charge of the Russian defence industry said last week.
