UN under-secretary-general cancels trip to Russia, Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS, July 30, /ITAR-TASS/. UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman has cancelled talks on the Ukrainian crisis in Moscow and Kiev amid a worsening situation in the Middle East, UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told Tass on Wednesday.

He said both countries had been informed about that, adding that Feltman would stay at the headquarters in New York because of the Gaza situation. He did not rule out Feltman’s visit to Moscow and Kiev later if the situation in Gaza calmed down.

Wednesday alone, more than 90 people died in Gaza as a result of Israeli strikes. The total number of Palestinians who have lost their lives since the start of the Israeli operation on July 8 has exceeded 1,300. More than 7,000 people have been wounded.
