BEIJING, July 30. /ITAR-TASS/. Several hundred rioters were on the streets of Shache, or Yarkand city in southeast of Chinese autonomous region Xinjiang on Monday, Chinese media report on Wednesday.

The rioters armed with knives and axes attacked local authorities and a police station, set fire to police cars and destroyed 31 cars. Dozens of civilians were killed and injured.

Attackers supported the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, the media report.

These are not first terror attacks in Xinjiang this year. On April 30, after a blast at the railway station in Urumqi, the autonomous region’s administrative centre, militants armed with knives attacked passengers. Three were killed, 79 injured. On May 22, suicide bombers on cars ran into the crows killing 31 and injuring 94.

Over the last months, Xinjiang police eliminated 32 underground organizations and arrested 380 members; 315 have already been sentenced to death and different prison terms, Chinese media report.
