THE UNITED NATIONS, July 22. /ITAR-TASS/. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) should play the leading role in the investigation of the circumstances of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing crash in eastern Ukraine, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Liu Jieyi said on Monday. He stated at the UN Security Council that China supports “an independent, unbiased and objective” investigation of the airliner crash.

“As a specialized UN organization dealing with international air services, ICAO should play the leading role in the international investigation. China urges all the sides to cooperate with this international investigation,” Lui said.

He added that it was currently necessary “to focus on finding out the truth about the catastrophe.”

“Before tha,t neither side should make assumptions and build up mutual accusations,” said the Chinese ambassador to the UN.
