Euro integration becomes universal method of disintegrating sovereign states

State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin says the European integration has ceased to be what it had been for decades

MOSCOW, July 10. /ITAR-TASS/. The source of the tragedy in Ukraine lay in the process of the so-called European integration, which has turned into a universal method of disintegrating sovereign states. This view was expressed by State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin in an article published by the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper on Thursday.

The signing of the economic association agreement with Ukraine took place at the height of the military operation with its numerous victims among peaceful civilians and a flow of refugees to the neighboring Russian regions, the article says.

“Many in Europe already talk about the true aims of the punitive operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” Naryshkin writes. “We are not alone in understanding that efforts to undermine Ukraine’s economic sovereignty are behind this. The plans of the total sale to European and American owners of all the assets that had previously been bringing economic benefit and well-being to the Ukrainian people are no longer 'a riddle wrapped up in an enigma'. And the Kiev authorities don't even try to hide it. Meanwhile, maybe this is the reason for both the precipitance and cruelty of military actions in the east of the country?”

“I have a persistent feeling that the so-called Euro integration has ceased to be what it had been for decades,” the author continues. “Over the course of several months, it turned from a promising and very rational project into a universal method of disintegrating sovereign states - moreover, in the vast geopolitical space where peoples tied by common historical destiny have lived for ages.”

In the view of Naryshkin, the much-touted in the West “Poroshenko plan” has no relation whatsoever to peaceful settlement. After a three-day extension of the ceasefire, which allowed the army to regroup forces, an even more cruel strike on the eastern territories was delivered. The new Ukrainian leader personally gave the order to resume fire the next morning after the rather detailed and seemingly successful four-sided negotiations, the Duma speaker notes.

In this connection, he urges Brussels to raise the issue of suspending the process of Ukraine’s association with the EU. “Only utter adventure-seekers can open their markets to the country that is fighting against its citizens, that is on the verge of economic collapse, and the political leadership of which cannot answer even for itself,” Naryshkin writes. He drew attention to the fact that civil societies in European countries have reacted to these developments, and there has also been the rightful indignation of journalists who have been deprived of the right to work with objective information.

A whole generation of European politicians with Washington behind them is making fatal mistakes, the article notes. “A serious indignation at their actions is brewing in the world, and sooner or later it will change the balance of geopolitical forces,” Naryshkin writes.
