KIEV, July 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has blocked a bill, which regulates the functioning of the energy sector amid restrictions or halt to energy carrier supplies in the country, on Thursday. The governmental bill in the first reading gained less than 226 votes required for its approval.

The document devoted to special period in the fuel and energy complex envisages granting powers to the Cabinet to manage gas, coalmining and electric power industries “in manual regime”, i.e. taking decisions on compulsory gas sale to gas-producing companies for the needs of heat-producing enterprises and setting prices for fuel sale.

Parliament-appointed Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk gave a harsh response to the failure of vote. “We will sit without gas in winter if you do not support governmental bills,” he told deputies.
