Ukraine’s Interior Ministry organises new checkpoints at border with Donetsk and Lugansk

Authorities of Ukraine’s Kharkov region, controlled by Kiev, plan to organise additional checkpoints at the administrative borders with the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, using forces and military vehicles of the Slobozhanshchina and Kharkov-1 units of special forces.

“After having inspected the vehicles, the Interior Ministry has, head of Krarkov’s police Anatoly Dmitriyev has ordered to reinforce protection of the state and administrative borders with the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

“The Chief Headquarters and personally I have made a decision to send the newly organised Slobozhanshchina and Kharkov-1 Special Forces to protect the administrative borders with the Lugansk and Donetsk regions,” the authority quotes Colonel Dmitriyev as saying. This measure, he said, “will prevent breakthrough of armed groups” using military vehicles. “We have agreed on the locations for the additional forces,” he added.

Regional authorities of the Kharkov region report Head of Administration Igor Baluta and his deputy Vasiliy Khoma jointly with representatives of Ukraine’s security service and the police on Friday “visited checkpoints in the Kupyansky and Borovsky districts,” “inspected the locations at the administrative borders between the Krarkov region and the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, where new checkpoints and forces will be.”

“From 20.00 we begin blocking bridges,” Baluta said. “The forces of Slobozhanshchina Special Forces will guard the checkpoints.
