KIEV, June 24. /ITAR-TASS/. The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has made the decision to suspend the activity of Izvarino border check point in the eastern Luhansk region on the frontier with Russia, Ukraine’s State Border Service reports on Tuesday.

Armed hostilities began at Ukraine’s Izvarino and on neutral territory at about 22:30, Moscow time, on June 20. Russian customs officers together with border guards were for 40 minutes evacuating from under the fire about 2,000 Ukrainians seeking to cross into Russia. Some of them were accommodated in a tent camp for refugees near the Ukrainian border.

The Ukrainian State Border Service qualified the incident overnight to June 21 as “an armed attack on a checkpoint by a group of gunmen, who used small arms and mortar fire, causing major damage to its infrastructure and destroying basic equipment”.
