Traffic at demolished section of East-Ukrainian railway to be restored by Tuesday night

KIEV, June 24 /ITAR-TASS/. Traffic on a railway line linking the stations of Ilovaysk and Kuteinikovo, east off Donetsk, will be partially restored by night hours of Tuesday, June 24, the Ukrainian State Railway Administration said in a report Monday.

The effort to recover fourteen freight coaches that ran off the track because of an explosion involves about a hundred railway workers and a number of specialized vehicles. By the time of reporting eight coaches had been recovered already.

In addition to the recovery of coaches, a section of the track some 250 to 300 meters long is to be restored.

Explosion occurred on the line between the stations of Ilovaysk and Kuteinikovo, which links Ukraine’s heavily industrialized Donetsk region and Russia’s southern Rostov region, Sunday June 22 when a freight train belonging to the Russian state railway corporation RZD was traversing the line.

The Russian engine crew reporting to the North Caucasus division of the railways was not injured.
