RIO DE JANEIRO, June 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Three people died and two were wounded overnight to Monday as a result of shootouts in the Complexo do Alemão favella in Rio de Janeiro. The Globo TV channel reports that one of the victims was a patrol police officer taking part in clashes with the offenders. Two of the killed favella residents had shotguns. One of the victims was younger than 18.

Since the beginning of 2014, five police officers have been killed in Complexo do Alemão, where drug mafia is strong. Today, security has been strongly tightened amid football matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Army units are involved in patrolling the favellas.

Brazilian law enforcers urge tourists visiting the World Cup to comply with general security rules and to abstain from visiting crime-prone areas, especially by night.

On Sunday, a match between Russia and Belgium (1-0) took place at the Maracana stadium. According to FIFA, about 10,000 Russian fans bought tickets to see this game.
